Eagle Toastmasters was mentioned in the record journal on Wednesday February 1, 2012. Check it out here. I've also pasted the article below.
Toastmasters International can help make your goal for 2012
It's the New Year and you've made your annual list of resolutions. Toastmasters International (toastmasters.org), a thriving organization with more than 260,000 members in over 12,500 clubs in 113 countries, can help you develop the communication and leadership skills needed to reach this goal.
So, how does it work?
Toastmasters clubs offer a "learn-by-doing" workshop in which participants practice speaking and leadership skills in a friendly atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet regularly to practice public speaking techniques. The average meeting lasts one hour and the membership is affordable: total annual fees are usually less than $100.
Members learn communication skills by following a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. Participants learn skills related to the use of humor, gestures, eye contact, speech organization and overall delivery. When finished with these first speeches, members can choose from 15 advanced manuals to learn skills related to a specific interest.
Members can also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and serving as officers in the club and district levels. Members aren't lectured about leadership but given practical skill-building responsibilities and club leadership roles.
Locally, the general public is invited to see what Toastmasters has to offer by visiting Eagle Toastmasters, which meets at the Park and Recreation, 6 Fairfield Blvd., on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:15 p.m.
